2017 GCLS Goldie Awards

Call for Judges

The judging application process is now open until August 20, 2016. (If it is determined that more judges are needed for the 2017 Awards season, we will extend the deadline.)

Click on the link at the bottom of this page to begin the application process. You will be asked to fill in your personal information, select five (5) preferred categories and agree to the terms & conditions of the Judge's Agreement.

We'll give consideration to all interested parties in a fair, equitable, and professional manner. We have fourteen (14) categories that span a vast array of genres, so there is something that should pique many interests. All categories will have up to five (5) judges assigned.

We ask that all judge applicants indicate five (5) category preferences. When indicating a preference, please bear in mind not only personal interest but possible conflicts of interest as well as time commitment. The 2016 Nominations page shows the number of books nominated in each category last year; you should only choose the larger categories if you are fully committed to finishing all your reading assignments by the deadline.

All judges selected will be notified via email regarding category assignment. The judging and scoring must be completed no later than April 15, 2017. No exceptions.

All judges will be required to attend two (2) one-hour webinar sessions in order to participate in the judging process.  The first webinar will be an instructional session on the process of judging and using our online Awards Management/Judging solution. The second webinar will be a walk-through of the scoring forms used by the judges. Both sessions will be presented by the Awards Administrators and the Liaison.

Judges and other members have provided excellent feedback in previous years. You've spoken and we've listened. Thus, as Awards Administrators, we pledge the following:

  • Barring unforeseen circumstances that are beyond our control, all posted deadlines will be met.
  • Appropriate training will be provided to judges regarding the evaluation process and the use of our online judging platform.
  • We will be available for questions concerning any aspect of the judging process.
  • Any and all emails sent to will receive a response within 24 hours of receipt (holidays excluded). Questions and problems will be addressed as quickly as possible and with frequent updates to the requester to ensure that there is a clear line of communication.

More information will be posted to the GCLS website soon. The Awards Guidelines and Judging Process, Rules, and Regulations are two specific pieces of information that will be of interest to everyone.

Thank you for volunteering! We look forward to a fun-filled awards season, culminating in our Annual Awards Ceremony in Chicago.
